Anna Kahn

In this series, Anna Kahn (1968) addresses the theme of urban violence by a phenomenon that is unfortunately quite common in Rio: the lost ball. In the war between the police and the traffickers, the population is heavily armed and news items often announce the disappearance of people with bullets in the most ordinary situations of everyday life: at work, in transport or in the moments of leisure.

Between 2002 and 2007, Anna Kahn went to places where victims of bullets died. Their legends contextualize these disappearances:

Catia, 32, housewife. At Copacabana beach, with friends and her 8-year-old daughter.

Elmo, 58, lawyer. In Andaraí, driving his car, returning from work.

The phenomenon of stray bullets is intensifying along with the tensions between the police, the public authorities and the population. A trend that should not falter, with the recent election of a far-right President of the Republic who has made the port of fire guns one of the main pillars of his government.
